Bore water treatment systems is a type of groundwater accessed by drilling a bore into an underground
aquifer. This water contains potentially harmful chemicals, some of which are
naturally occurring and some of which are the result of pollution and
over-dosing. Contained aquifers are deep underground and are protected by
layers of rock more than 20 metres thick. Shallow aquifers, on the other hand,
aren't so deep and are susceptible to micro-organism contamination and chemical
pollution.
A typical
system consists of a dual standing sand filter, which traps iron, calcium and
other minerals. The filtration process is complete within ten days. After the
initial site consultation, the treatment process begins with a bore water test
to determine the amount of iron and other metals present in the water. The
system is designed around the raw mineral profile of the bore water, taking
into account factors such as water pressure, water flow rate, and sprinkler
staining.
The UF
process, or ultrafiltration, removes suspended solids, bacteria, and most
viruses and endotoxins from water. It also has a low silt density and is easy
to maintain. Reverse osmosis (RO) removes dissolved salts, soluble solids, and
other impurities from water. The RO process uses a semi-permeable membrane that
allows water to pass through it while rejecting metal ions and dissolved salts.
The resulting solution is then sent through a series of multimedia filters that
act as a physical filter and catalytic media to remove any remaining
contaminants.
